Our assignment was to upload pictures of leftovers. This could be interpreted in a literal or symbolic way, and I chose to look at it in both a literal and symbolic way.

Self-Portrait
My goals for this project where to create a realistic image of myself. I accomplished this goal by using a grid to work out my dimensions and accurate value. What surprised me the most about my experience was how realistic I could actually make a face look considering I had never drawn a face before this. The most challenging thing I had to face was getting the eye just right. I met that challenge by looking at just the shapes of the colors instead of the eye as a whole eye. I think my drawing really works around the main eye. I have learned to not be so detailed the whole time because the big picture will all come together in the end. If I had a do over I would draw my nose differently because my nose is not actually that long. I think the best thing about my art work is the eye and the eyebrow on the right side.
Light Assignment

Our assignment was to capture light and its reflections at night. These are the images that I took for this assignment.

Spooky Pumpkin
My goals for this piece were to learn how to achieve value in a realistic way using dramatic lighting. I accomplished this by using charcoal for the shadows and an eraser and chalk for the lighter spaces. The most difficult part was trying to create the stem with all of the little details vines sticking out. I constantly went back and layered the compressed charcoal with the white chalk to try and mimic the stringiness of the end of the stem. I learned to not focus on what we know about an item but to look at what we see. If I could do this over, I would probably focus on the stem first instead of leaving it for last. I really enjoyed learning how to use charcoal and enjoyed getting my hands messy and actually being able to use my finger directly.
